Diamond Fibre Company / Continental Diamond Fibre

Diamond Fibre Company (later Continental Diamond Fibre Company) of Newark, Delaware was one of the earliest and largest producers of vulcanized fiber and industrial laminate products in the United States. Operations spanned the late nineteenth century through the asbestos era; the company’s product line included vulcanized fiber sheet (Pibet™), asbestos-reinforced phenolic laminates (Vulcoid™), and specialty insulating products.

Diamond Fibre’s asbestos-era laminates included paper-phenolic and asbestos-cloth-phenolic sheet, rod, and tube stock for electrical insulation, machined industrial parts, and military applications. The company’s Newark Delaware plant was a significant employer through the asbestos era. Corporate successor liability has passed through multiple entities including Spaulding Fibre and Rogers Corporation chains.
