Spaulding Fibre Company

Spaulding Fibre Company of Tonawanda, New York was a leading manufacturer of asbestos-reinforced industrial laminates and vulcanized fiber from the early twentieth century through the asbestos era. The company’s product line spanned vulcanized fiber sheets, paper-phenolic laminates, asbestos-cloth-phenolic laminates, and specialty industrial materials.

Spauldite™ was Spaulding’s brand for industrial laminates including asbestos-reinforced grades. Spaulding-supplied laminate sheet, rod, and tube stock was machined into electrical insulators, terminal boards, structural components, gears, and bushings at customer shops throughout the United States.

Spaulding Fibre was acquired by Rogers Corporation (which has its own substantial asbestos-phenolic compound exposure history) and later passed through additional corporate restructuring.
