Synthane Taylor Corporation

Synthane Taylor Corporation (also operated as Synthane Corporation and earlier Continental Synthane) was a major manufacturer of asbestos-reinforced industrial laminates. Synthane laminates competed directly with Westinghouse Micarta and General Electric Textolite in the industrial electrical, aerospace, and machined-part markets. Phenolic-resin and melamine-resin laminates reinforced with asbestos cloth, asbestos paper, and other fillers were produced under the Synthane™ brand through the late 1970s.

Synthane products were specified in industrial circuit-breaker construction, switchgear arc chutes, transformer components, terminal blocks, and various MIL-M-14-spec aerospace and defense applications. The company’s industrial laminates were sold as sheet stock and rod stock to thousands of downstream machine shops and electrical-equipment manufacturers across the country.
