Operational Description
Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), founded 1902 and headquartered in Decatur Illinois (now Chicago IL), operates one of the largest U.S. networks of:
- Grain elevators — country and terminal elevators across the U.S. grain belt
- Oilseed processing plants — soybean, sunflower, canola, cottonseed crushing
- Corn refineries (wet milling) — high-fructose corn syrup, ethanol, citric acid, lysine, and corn-derived industrial chemicals
- Wheat flour mills
- Cocoa processing
- Ethanol and biodiesel production
Through the asbestos era, ADM plants included extensive asbestos pipe insulation, asbestos block insulation on hot processing equipment, asbestos refractory in dryers and steam plants, asbestos gaskets and packing, and asbestos-bearing electrical infrastructure throughout.
ADM has been named as a corporate defendant in publicly filed Missouri and Illinois asbestos litigation — including the publicly filed Missouri OBLF asbestos litigation. case in St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit where ADM filed a Response to Counts I-III of Petition.
