Product Description
The Babcock & Wilcox Once-Through Steam Generator (OTSG) transferred heat from the primary coolant to the secondary side, producing superheated steam in B&W PWR designs. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, tube-support pads, internal lagging, primary and secondary manway gaskets, and the external insulation jacket allegedly used asbestos-fabric and asbestos-fiber materials rated for high temperature service. During eddy-current inspection outages, tube plugging, and manway openings, workers allegedly cut, ripped, and reinstalled asbestos-containing gaskets and lagging pieces, releasing respirable fibers into the steam generator bay.
Workers Exposed
Nuclear plant boilermakers allegedly performed OTSG manway openings, tube plugging, and lagging repair. Pipefitters/steamfitters allegedly worked on the primary and secondary piping tie-ins. Nuclear plant mechanics and refueling outage contractors allegedly staged the inspection scaffolding and supported disassembly and reassembly.
