Product Description
Cameron Iron Works (founded 1920, headquartered Houston Texas; acquired by Cooper Industries 1989 forming Cooper Cameron Corporation; later Cameron International; today part of Schlumberger / SLB) was through the 20th century one of the dominant U.S. manufacturers of wellhead equipment, blowout preventers (BOPs), Christmas trees, choke and kill manifolds, and petroleum-production equipment for oilfield drilling and production operations. Cameron’s blowout preventer product line — particularly the Cameron Type U ram-type BOP — was an industry standard on U.S. and global drilling rigs through the documented asbestos era.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Cameron Iron Works wellhead equipment, blowout preventers, and petroleum-production equipment were specified through the asbestos era with:
- Asbestos gaskets and packing at BOP ram seals, wellhead flange connections, and Christmas tree assemblies
- Asbestos packing on choke and kill manifold valves
- Asbestos electrical insulation on BOP control systems and subsea equipment electrical components
Cameron Iron Works / Cameron International / Schlumberger has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
