Product Description

Ecodyne Corporation and its Ecodyne Water Treatment division manufactured cooling towers, deaerators, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, and water-treatment vessels used in powerhouses, refineries, chemical plants, pulp and paper mills, and heavy industrial facilities. Ecodyne equipment operated at elevated temperatures and pressures and required extensive high-temperature sealing and thermal insulation.

Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Ecodyne process equipment was fitted with asbestos-containing gaskets, packing, and rope at flanges, manways, and rotating shafts and was insulated with asbestos block and pipe covering on hot piping and steam-heated components. Workers alleged exposure during original installation, gasket and packing replacement, and demolition and rebuild of Ecodyne equipment.

Workers Exposed

  • Insulators who applied asbestos block and pipe covering to Ecodyne vessels and connecting piping
  • Boilermakers who worked on Ecodyne deaerators and steam-side components
  • Powerhouse, refinery, and chemical plant maintenance workers who repacked and regasketed Ecodyne equipment across decades of operation
