Product Description

Evapco induced-draft cooling towers and evaporative condensers allegedly incorporated asbestos-cement splash bar fill assemblies suspended in tiered racks inside the tower cell. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the splash bars were formed from asbestos-cement stock and secured on stainless or galvanized hangers to disperse falling water across the airstream. Weathered splash bars fractured under load and during pressure washing, releasing respirable fibers when service crews entered the tower for annual maintenance. Evapco towers were installed in commercial HVAC, institutional plant, and light industrial process applications.

Workers Exposed

Cooling tower service technicians, HVAC service technicians, steam-fitters and pipefitters working through UA locals, and building maintenance mechanics are allegedly the trades most frequently identified in litigation records as having handled Evapco asbestos-cement splash bar fill during teardown and refill.
