Product Description

Falk Corporation of Milwaukee manufactured enclosed helical, herringbone, and parallel-shaft gear drives that were installed throughout U.S. paper mills, steel mills, cement plants, and mining operations. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, Falk gearboxes were allegedly assembled with asbestos-fiber-reinforced oil-seal rings, shaft-seal packing, and compressed asbestos sheet housing gaskets on inspection covers, split-case joints, and lube-oil flanges. Millwrights allegedly cut and installed replacement asbestos sheet gaskets during scheduled overhauls.

Workers Exposed

Millwrights, rotating equipment mechanics, gearbox rebuilders, and coupling alignment specialists allegedly disturbed asbestos-containing seals and gaskets when removing inspection plates, replacing shaft seals, and re-gasketing Falk housings during paper machine, rolling mill, and mine hoist overhauls.
