Product Description
GAF Corporation (originally General Aniline & Film Corporation; consolidated 1967 by merger of GAF, Ruberoid Company, and other historic subsidiaries; today GAF Materials Corporation, the largest U.S. residential roofing manufacturer; headquartered Parsippany NJ) manufactured through the 20th century a broad line of asbestos-containing roofing, insulation, and building products under the GAF, Ruberoid, and Standard brand names.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that GAF / Ruberoid products included:
- Asbestos-cement roofing shingles and siding — Ruberoid asbestos-cement products
- Asbestos roofing felt — the built-up-roofing (BUR) base sheet material used with hot asphalt on flat commercial roofs
- Asbestos-containing pipe covering and block insulation
- Asbestos ceiling tile
- Asbestos-containing floor tile
- Asbestos-fibered roofing cement, mastic, and coatings
Roofers, insulators, construction workers, and apartment maintenance workers who installed, cut, tore off, and worked in proximity to GAF / Ruberoid asbestos-containing products were allegedly exposed to airborne asbestos fibers.
GAF Corporation / Ruberoid has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation. GAF entered Chapter 11 in 2001 driven by asbestos personal-injury liability and emerged 2009 through asbestos-trust mechanisms.
