Product Description
I-T-E Imperial Corporation (later I-T-E / Gould / Siemens-Allis) produced the HK-series and K-Line air circuit breakers installed in low- and medium-voltage switchgear across utilities, refineries, steel mills, and paper mills from the 1940s through the 1980s. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the HK arc chute allegedly used woven chrysotile fabric wraps around the arc-runner rails and molded asbestos-phenolic side plates on the interior arcing surfaces, chosen for dielectric strength and ablative arc resistance.
Racking, testing, and rebuilding these breakers allegedly disturbed friable asbestos residue inside the arc chute and cubicle.
